The special edition reference 145.022-69 'Apollo XI 1969' was produced in a series to 1,014 watches that were created to commemorate the successful moon landing. The first 34 watches of the 1,014 produced were given to politicians, NASA Apollo XI team members and astronauts. Serial number 1 was given to President Richard Nixon and serial number 2 was gifted to his Vice President Spiro Agnew. Walter Schirra received serial number 9, Ed White number 10, Neil Armstrong number 17 and Buzz Aldrin number 21. Furthermore, numbers 29 and 32 were presented to Swiss politicians as well as the managers of Omega and Lemania. The remaining pieces like the present example were sold to the public.
This Speedmaster 145.022-69 BA in 18kt yellow gold is one of the finest examples to come on the market in some time. It is completely unpolished retaining all of its original chamfered edges and the paint in the caseback is still fully intact. The original dot over 90 bezel insert is in 10 out of 10 condition with no imperfections. The bracelet is in excellent condition and shows very little to no stretch. It is a large bracelet easily able to fit an 8 inch wrist. The serial number is 92x and the extract of the archives is included with the watch.
